Welcome to a month of Wellbeing in Nature
We are delighted to be working with Lesley Roberts of Brave Conversations & Coaching Outdoors to bring you a 4.5 week wellbeing in nature programme which invites you to take some time for yourself and to benefit physically and mentally from being in nature. The emphasis of these 4.5 weeks is on supporting you to integrate one element of wellbeing into your normal life in a way that works for you.
Why nature?
Researchers at the University of Essex found that, of a group of people suffering from depression, 90 per cent felt a higher level of self-esteem after taking a walk through a country park, and almost three quarters of the group felt less dispirited after the walk.
In 2018 GPs on the Shetland Islands began issuing ‘nature prescriptions’, which instruct patients with chronic conditions to take strolls on beaches and moors, with a list of bird and plant species to look out for as they wander.
Did you know that running water is full of negative ions which are said to bring energy and vitality? So, sitting by a stream or waterfall can be really energising.
The focus for Mental Health Awareness Week this year was on being in nature and on inviting us to “open ourselves up and interact with nature”. Mark Rowland, Chief Executive of the Mental health Foundation.
Enjoy your month.
